Part 1
The Power of the Holy Spirit

The Bible is a guide to making the Christian life work for us.

I was asked today why as children of God do we still fall subject to sickness, decease and premature death. The answer to that question is found in Hosea 4:6 where God has said that his people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

As children of an almighty, all powerful God, we have been blessed by God with not only unlimited but incredible supernatural resources. Yet most of us have very little, if any, knowledge of what those resources are and how to apply them to our everyday lives. God has provided for and given to us every spiritual blessing and granted to us all authority and power over every force of the enemy. Yet many of us are defeated daily by that very same enemy because we fail to use the power that God has given to us. We fail to see that He has made His own omnipotent power available to us through the person of the Holy Spirit. If we want to live a victorious Christian life on this earth we are going to have to come to the realization that the Holy Spirit is the key to these incredible supernatural resources of almighty God.

Scriptures for Study:
Ephesians 1:3 (every spiritual blessing) 2 Peter 1:3 (granted to us all things)
Ephesians 1:19-23 (power available) Acts 1;8 ( receive power)
Ephesians 3:16 (strengthened with power)
Ephesians 3:20 (power that works in us)
Luke 10:19 (authority)

We are not just what man would term mere mortal, natural men and women. According to Genesis 1:26 we are a supernatural spirit being that is created in the very image and likeness of God. John 4:24 tells us that God is spirit and if we are created in His image than we are spirit as well. We need to stop living our lives as if we are mere mortal men and women. We need to grab a hold of the fact that we are supernatural children of a supernatural God with incredible supernatural resources and power at our disposal through the person of the Holy Spirit. When we finally lay a hold of that fact our lives will never be the same again.

When Christ said in John 14:12, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father." (NKJV) He was saying that we would be able to do greater works because He was sending the Holy Spirit of God to dwell within us and to baptize us with His power. Jesus said in John 16:7 that it was expedient, meaning beneficial or profitable for us if He were to go to heaven and send to us the Holy Spirit of God.
John the Baptist tells us in Matthew 3:11 that Jesus will baptize us with the Holy Ghost and fire. It is obvious through this scripture that when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit we get His fire, His power dwelling within us as well. But what good does the power of the Spirit do us if we do not get to know the Holy Spirit and let Him teach us how to utilize His power.

Most Christians strive for a relationship with the Father and the Son. We seek to understand them and their ways. Yet we fail to recognize the importance of the third person of the trinity, we fail to seek a relationship with the Holy Spirit of God. We do not strive to understand Him and His importance to us and His importance to our very lives. We fail to realize that it is only through the Holy Spirit that we can truly know and understand the Father and the Son. For God has said in His Word that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth and He will speak only those things which He hears and He will glorify Jesus. (John 16:13,14) The precious Holy Spirit does not speak of Himself, He only speaks what He hears the Father speak and He always shows us the way to Jesus and He always brings Glory to the Son of God.

If we are ever to truly know and have a deeply personal relationship with the Father and the Son we must seek to know and understand the person of the Holy Spirit.
